Casares proposes the construction of a viewpoint in the Moorish Castle

The passage of the Great Path of Málaga by Casares could benefit from the installation of a new viewpoint in the town. In addition to this new path, the City proposed the construction of this infrastructure in the Moorish Castle, where you can see the whole town in their highest point and the Strait of Gibraltar. This space is widely used today for sighting raptors and migratory birds.

The Department of Environment of the City made this proposal in order to exploit the arrival of the Great Path to the municipality, which is currently being built by young people hired by the Employment Plan for minors 30 years. The path that would benefit from this new infrastructure and would be passing through Herriza Matagaya.

According said the mayor of Environment, Pepe Carrasco, this would be another attraction lookout for this new space dedicated to hiking, about 800 meters above sea level, with great views and that will cover important places like the ordeal of the eighteenth century Calvary, the Castillo del Moro and cane Juanito Juan.


The new pedestrian route will be equipped with fencing around steeper areas, rest areas and viewpoints, information panels on native plant species, vultures, migratory birds and ethnohistorical areas.

Meanwhile, the new viewpoint would be installed on the platform of the old powder magazine, although dating from the War of Independence it is known as the Moorish Castle “The project involves the installation of a perimeter railing, shaded seating to encourage the bird sightings, and information panels on raptors and migratory birds.
